Feb 13 - Boat Ride, Pink Dolphin, Natives Visit

Our morning excursion is watching Pink Dolphin at Novo Airao region. Due to the schedule for all 4 speed boat groups, our boat took a ride first and then hitting the Pink Dolphin floating platform the last.

During the boat ride we cruised to the only lake in the Negros River. It has only one path for entrance and exit of the lake. It was amazing to witness how they were able to find the entrance among all islands, woods, and waterways. However, it was very interesting to see firsthand regarding the water levels of Negro River (Amazon River) in different seasons by the water marks on the trees.

Finally, we got to the Pink Dolphin Float Platform by the river. The pink dolphins are not captives. The Dolphins showed up by knowing there is food around the floating platform. We were told that this is the only spot in the world that we can find pink dolphins. Dolphin uses sonic to sense everything. Therefore it is essential for the native dolphin trainers to handle the Dolphin food. Once the trainer got pink dolphins up, then we can touch the bottom part of their mouth. Dolphin has a special attraction power to make everyone getting into their youth again. Definitely it was the Kodak moment again.

After getting back to Iberostar, we had a lecture about “fish of the Amazon”.

In the afternoon, we visited the local natives. They provided a number of native singing and dancing for us. We also visited their school which hosting kids from nearby islands. There are speedboats picking them up and taking them to this school every day. It adapts the Distance Learning technique using satellite TV broadcasting from Manaus. They have special programs to teach the youngsters the commercial skills. They also sell t-shirts using local materials.

Quite a few of us did purchase the t-shirts as part of donation to local education systems. Then we visited the local market. It is a different type of market and the only thing they sell is souvenir jewelry made by seeds found locally.
