Feb 12 - Jungle Walk, Boat Riding, Cayman Spotting

The 1st excursion was the Jungle Walk at Jaraqui region. It was the only excursion needing some precaution of mosquitoes and bugs. It is the time we all need the mosquito nets purchased earlier. All of us were OK with mosquitoes; however, some of us still got bitten by ticks.

The tour guide was a native who grew up in this area and knew a lot about the ways of natives hunting and their skills regarding surviving in the jungle. He demonstrated the ways to get materials to build shelter in the jungle, to find food and water. It was very educational for all of us city guys and gals.

Due to protection clothes we had put on and the humidity, we all needed a shower after the excursion.  Later, we had a lecture about the Amazon region and lunch at Kaurup Restaurant.

We had a 4 o’clock excursion in the afternoon. We were supposed to have a boat ride at Tres Bocas region and animal spotting. Due to the PH level in Negro River, we had a boat ride but not much of animal spotting. The only animal we saw was birds. Since they were all far away, most photos we took for the birds were candidates for deletion after viewing on the camera.

At night, we went out again for Cayman spotting. It was absolute silence in the Negro River at night. The only noise was the motor sound of our speedy boat and our voice. The tour guide must know where to find the Cayman. After about 20 minutes of cruising on the quiet river, the boat stopped and the guide reached to the water and suddenly he caught a 5 years old Cayman. It is about 3 ft long and looked like a baby alligator. He provided a lot of info regarding the Cayman and also allowed us to touch the Cayman.

BTW, we have to mention that all food, drinks, and services are inclusive in this cruise. The first drink on Iberostar Grandstar Hotel Ship is Caipirinha which is a sugar cane liquor introduced by Isabel to all of us.
