Feb 11 - Manaus City Tour, Embark Iberostar

We had a Manaus city tour in the morning with visits of Court House, local markets and Opera House.

Local market has abundant supplies of fruits, sea foods and spices. It is an original form of old markets and it is definitely different from the supermarket we are used to. It was an experience.

Opera House is grand and beautiful; however, it is not being used.

Then we had lunch at local restaurant Peixaria Poraque prior to boarding Iberostar Amazon river curies ship. Prior to boarding Iberostar, the Manaus local tour guide who is very knowledgeable told us that the curies we are going to is on Rio Negro (Negro River), not Amazon River. Negro River is one of the large branch of Amazon River. Due to its composition, the PH level of the water in Negro River is 35%. With the high PH level, we will not encounter too many mosquitoes, at the same time we will come across less bugs and animals. According to Iberostar’s schedules, the weekday curies are on Negro River and the weekend curies is on Amazon River.

Once again, either APF did not know cruise ship schedule or they were misleading us. At that point, we were not sure the value of mosquito precaution shots we had prior to the trip.

Iberostar cruise ship has 5 decks with the Kuarup Restaurant at the bottom deck, Disco Lua meeting room for all lectures and gatherings is on 2nd deck, library and fitness room are on 3rd deck, shop is on 4th deck and Grill Tucano and pool are on 5th deck which is an open deck on the top of the ship. Rooms are roomy and services are great. Facility is limited comparing to other ocean cruise ships.
